MENS SECTION NEWS -PRO REPORT 04/09/2017
CLUB TEAM NEWS
Welcome home
On Saturday 2nd September 2017 was the return leg of the final of the Barton Cup. The most prestigious competition in the province which has been run since 1905. 133 teams entered this year and now it was down to just two. Only 50 teams have ever won it and nobody has ever retained it. Earlier rounds included victories over Courtown, Bunclody, The European, Callan, Charlesland and Killeen. Enniscorthy G.C. had travelled to their opponents course, Ardee G.C. in Louth, two weeks previously and came home losing 3-2. First team to 6 wins would be declared the winner in this foursomes event.
It started with all the Enniscorthy contingent involved gathering early at the club in a hopeful and confident mood, sure why not we were on home soil? Team managers, Murt Mangan, Paul Connolly and Jason Rackard were doing the last of their pep talks instilling confidence into our players and talking tactics, the teams were picked and the playing order decided upon. Nothing left to do now only start playing. The strategy decided upon was to pair our experienced and previous winners (in four of the teams) of this competition with the new recruits to the team, a mixture of wisdom and youth which proved to be a winning formula. The Morrissey brothers were paired together to make up the first team out and boy did they tear up the course.
This is how it unfolded, Frankie and James Morrissey blew their opponents away with a resounding 8/6 victory and it wasn’t too long until that news spread around the course and it inspired our team and surely deflated the opposition. Match score 3-3. Ardee, John Callan & Thomas Malone.
Paul Lynch and Liam Sheridan played a tight match and were 3 up by the 11th and young Sheridan finished the match on the 17th to win 2/1. Match score 4-3. Paul had a brilliant putt on our notorious 8th green, down the hill, about 20‘ long. It was a heartbreaker for the opposition. Ardee, Fergal Kerr & Paul Wisniewski.
Shane Fortune and Martin Sludds were always well in control of this one, 4 up after 10, and were done by the 15th winning 4/3 and Martin headed for a celebratory pint of Guinness and then brought same back out on to the course to watch the remaining teams coming in. Now the huge expectant crowd are starting to get excited. One more will do it. Match score 5-3. Ardee, Brendan Healy & Eric McKeever.
At this point a draw was looking like a possibility and we could see our team out warming up/practising for this outcome on the second as we walked by.
17 year old Paul Conroy was paired with the daddy of the team, Richard ‘Butch’ O’Connor. This match went to the wire, swinging from 2 up to 2 down before eventually finishing all square with our lads winning the 18th. So to a tiebreaker on the par 3 first.
Meanwhile our last pairing of Adam Jordan and Nicky Murphy, playing against Kevin Carry & Gerard Caffrey, were battling away in a match that saw them 3 down by the 9th hole, but they plugged away and dug deep to be evens after the 16th and down by one after the 17th. With the proximity of the two holes the crowd just didn’t know where to look and which match to follow as both were of equal importance as one more victory gave Enniscorthy their third Barton Cup victory in 10 years. By the time Conroy and O’Connor were at the first green Jordan and Murphy were teeing off at 18. Tensions were running high at this point and from my vantage point standing on the embankment at the 1st green I was able to see both games. In front of me were 4 or 5 Ardee supporters wishing Butch’s drive into the trees (in a good natured way I might add). They didn’t get their wish as Butch landed it on the left edge of the green approx. 20’ from the pin. Ardee then drove and they did land into the trees, right call lads but for the wrong man!!! I have to say at this point that the Ardee supporters were brilliant, there was craic and banter going on all day both out on the course and in the clubhouse afterwards. Gentlemen all. Getting out of the trees proved an arduous task, I think the first attempt was a mishit and the next was short of the green and then finally on in four. This leaves the baby faced assassin Conroy with three putts to win the tournament, will he lag it up for O’Connor to tap in or will he go for it? As he is lining up his putt there is a roar of ‘fore left’ from an Ardee player driving from the 18th. Did this put our man off? No chance. Why take two putts when one will do? Yes, he did it in one, stand tall young Conroy, a hero for ever more. A twenty footer to wrap it all up. Young lads have no fear. The cheers and invasion of the green had to be heard and seen to be believed. Match score 6-3. Ardee, Joe McArdle & Peter Taaffe.Paul Conroy watching it all the way. Will it? Will it?

Of course it will. He needn’t have worried as it was always going in. Let the celebrations begin.
Adam Jordan inexplicably was almost the first person to congratulate young Conroy. Usain Bolt wouldn’t have reached there any quicker from the 18th tee box. Nicky Murphy took a little longer to arrive!
For the third time (2008 & 2011) in the competitions history Enniscorthy G.C. are the Barton Cup champions. It is worth noting that both Paul Lynch and Martin Sludds have been on all three teams. Not many players can say that. Additionally, Butch has also won three times too, twice as a manager and once as a player, Murt Mangan is the reverse of this and finally Jim Delaney is a three time winning manager. With a pedigree like that how were we ever going to lose?
Brian and Eddie Balfe, Eddie Doyle and Patsy Kavanagh were the team reserves.

This is what it was all about. A fantastic trophy.
So to the clubhouse and refreshments and just before the heavy rain that had been threatening for hours. The speeches soon followed led by Leinster Branch GUI chairman John Ferriter who stated that this was indeed one of the largest attendances ever witnessed at a final. He particularly picked out our green keeping team headed by PJ Dempsey and saying that the course and greens were in magnificent condition befitting any final. He also thanked E.G.C. for the courtesy and welcome extended to Ardee G.C. and accommodating them in any way that they could in their practising requirements.
Next up was our Captain, Jack Murphy, he congratulated both teams on a tremendous game of golf and asked both teams to give each other a round of applause. Jack said that it was an absolute honour to be Captain of this great club and to win two major titles in his year of office. He was particularly pleased with the younger members of the team today as through his work as junior convenor at the club that he had been training some of them for as much as 12 years and it is a great source of pride for him personally.
Team manager of Ardee, Eddie Burke, called our team a great bunch of players and that it had been a long road since starting this competition many months ago. This was their first final and hard luck to all of his team today and thanks to all their supporters.
Last up, to rapturous applause was our team manager, Murt Mangan who promised to keep his speech short and failed, pulling reams of paper from his back pocket with speech notes! Firstly he thanked the competition sponsor of forty years, FBD Insurance, saying that these competitions just couldn’t go ahead without sponsorship and that they keep golf going. The green keeping team were thanked again for having the course in absolutely splendid condition. He went on to state that the quality of the local clubs in the Wexford area make the competition that much harder to win as the other clubs are at such a high standard. This is not a competition that you cannot get better at as one progresses through the rounds. If you want to win it you have to be at the pinnacle of performance from the first round. He has no doubt that Ardee will win this cup someday such is the quality of their players and standard of golf. The team sponsors were thanked for their contributions, namely Neville Conroy, club professional Stephen Fitzpatrick, Richard ‘Butch’ O’Connor and Liam Spratt. There were many other donors towards team expenses that wished to remain anonymous. The management of the club were thanked for their support all year long and that their investment was about to be repaid with a good nights takings behind the bar! At this juncture the players were all called up where they each received a miniature version of the Barton Cup.

The management and team would like to thank all the members and friends who came out to support the team in such numbers and to the helpers and staff on and off the course that helped make the day run smoothly and without a hitch.

Both sets of players, caddies and team management were then treated to a sumptuous dinner in the clubhouse and then maybe, just maybe a few pints were had. As word got out about this brilliant victory many members who couldn’t make it in during the day turned up at night for the celebrations and a right ould night was had. The huge cup was filled with a cocktail of spirits and duly passed around for all to share.

A mention too for our ladies section who reached the Midland district final against The Royal Curragh G.C. played in Tramore G.C. unfortunately on the same day and were unlucky to come back to the Barton Cup celebrations without the cup after going down 3-2, wouldn’t that have been some impressive haul for the year?
Enniscorthy Golf Club is the most successful club in the country for winning provincial and national honours and that record is now enhanced with two extra cups proudly displayed in the clubhouse. A special mention to Shane Fortune who was the only player to play for both teams winning the Provincial Towns Challenge Cup two weeks ago and the Barton Cup this week, not too many will have that on their golfing CV.
Why not join the club and see for yourself what makes this club so good. Junior coaching is top of the range, the facilities are brilliant and the course has to be one of the best in the region as it has the strange ability to be a challenge for the expert and a pleasure for the novice golfer at the same time. Yes, we don’t understand it either but that is the way it is!!!

GENERAL NEWS
The clubhouse played host to two very important occasions recently when two weddings were held here on two consecutive days. First up was club member Johnny Fox who married Gillian Moran with 70 guests in attendance. This was a first as it was a civil ceremony and the first to be held on the premises. Guests came from afar as England, Scotland and many from Dublin. The plan was to have the ceremony on the practise putting green but alas the weather had a say so they had it on the balcony instead. Second up was Adrianne Oram and Shane Kirwan, son of club stalwart Tom, who also had a civil ceremony but in Enniscorthy Castle and held their reception for 60 guests in the clubhouse. Guests were from England and Cork.

The mens golf committee are cleaning up this week with competition secretary Paddy Hore winning the Ladies & Gents Open and secretary Jim Doran getting a hole in one on the 12th in the Dunnes Stores sponsored two person team event last weekend. Well done lads.

The club singles competitions have reached the semi final stage and all games are to be completed by September 17th. Ould buddies Philip Browne & Joe Delaney are in one semi and Nicky Murphy & Paul Cosgrave are in the other. Nicky Murphy won this last year, is his name on it again? The club fourball competition has also reached the quarter final stage with all games due to be completed by September 3rd.

Our 3 month ‘Get in to golf’ programme for beginners is proving to be a runaway success, so much so that more programmes are being planned for later in the year. Open to both male and females, contact Stephen Fitzpatrick on 053 923 3191 for more details.

MENS SECTION NEWS -PRO REPORT 16/07/2017

UPCOMING EVENTS
Our second open week starts on Friday 28th July through to Tuesday August 1st with several game variations available to cater for all.

Need some of the finer points of the game to be explained to you? Well your local club can cater for that. There are group coaching sessions with our PGA Professional Stephen Fitzpatrick starting soon. These sessions will take place weekly over 5 weeks with a different type of shot being covered every week. Ideal for golfers of all standards, these sessions are sure to improve your game in a fun and informative environment. There will be two Ladies groups and one Mens Group – The first Ladies group, starts on Thurs 27th July and takes place from 11-12noon. The second Ladies group starts Fri 28th from 2-3pm and the Mens group will be starting on Thursday 27th in the evenings from 6-7pm. All these group sessions will run at the same time on the allotted day for the 5 week duration.

• The gents open seniors is on the second Thursday of every month. There are changes to the age groups and they are as follows, 50 to 65, 66 to 75 and 76+. The most popular and best attended gents senior open in the region. The ladies equivalent is on the third Thursday of every month.

• The ever popular ladies and gents open singles made a welcome return this year and is open to all membership categories. If you know of anyone who might be interested in this competition then please bring them along. Timesheets are now open for booking for virtually every Monday throughout the year.

CLUB TEAM RESULTS
The Provincial Towns team have won their semi-final final against Newbridge G.C. Eunan Doyle and Davie Murphy won the first two matches away while Eddie Doyle, Shane Fortune and Sean Hegarty won their 3 games at home. Declan Byrne and Jim Mackey were called in at home. Denis Dunne and James Foley had earlier lost away. Congratulations to the management team of John Byrne and Tim Morrissey. First leg of final is away on 6th August against Headfort with the home leg on 20th August. Well done to all again on a great performance getting our club to the final for only second time in our history. The Ladies section made it a great day for the club when the Ladies Junior Cup team also qualified for the Mid Leinster final.

GENERAL NEWS
The Bloomfield Cup, full results above, was held last weekend in glorious sunshine on both days and 154 players participated in what is ranked as the second most prestigious tournament of the year within the club. This competition was due to held in May but was cancelled due to the inclement weather at the time. Captain Jack Murphy welcomed all present at the huge turnout for the presentation and John Dwyer from sponsors Counterpoint Ireland who supply our beverages. He went on to say that the course staff had the course in excellent condition for the weekend and thanked everyone who made the day possible and run like clockwork. He also thanked the bar and restaurant staff for their contributions over the weekend. John Dwyer stated that he was delighted to be a sponsor and congratulated all the winners. The winner was announced to be Rory O’Connor to rapturous applause and he made a short and sweet victory speech, he thanked everyone out there today, his playing partners, the course staff and that they had the course in great condition. One point to note that Jim Mackey managed to play on both the Provincial Towns team and in the Bloomfield Cup play off on Sunday evening managing to win the seniors prize. Well done that man.

GENERAL NEWS
The Ladies of the club had their big day out for the year in that it was the Lady Captains Prize last Saturday. Well done to both Lady Captain Mary McCauley and the competition winner Anna Mai O’Connor.

The 2017 Open Championship will be held 20th – 23rd July 2017 at Royal Birkdale Golf Club, Southport. Look out for two competitions linked to it at our club. The 9 hole midweek competitions held on the 12th and 19th will once again give competitors the chance to be randomly paired with the professionals and the combined scores will determine the winner. Enter twice if you wish, the entry forms will be in the Pro shop. The second competition will be to pick three players, one from each of the named categories, and their score over the four days determines the winner. €2 entry to both. Entry forms in the bar. The winner of the last ‘pick a team of three’ was Fintan O’Sullivan, see our genial bar manager Adrian who will add the prize to your members bar card. Nobody managed to pick three players that all made the cut so I had to change the rules a bit. The winner was determined by the lowest score from the two players that did make the cut.

INTER CLUB RESULTS
The Barton Cup team were playing last Saturday against Charlesland G. C. with a place in the semi-final of this Leinster competition at stake. We had 2 matches at home with 3 matches away at the county Wicklow course. Paul Conroy & Butch O’Connor sealed their match on the 18th hole in Charlesland to give our Barton Cup team the win that puts them into the semi-final. Earlier, Shane Fortune & Martin Sludds and Adam Jordan & Nicky Murphy had won their matches at home. Paul Lynch & Liam Sheridan, in their away match were beaten on the 22nd hole, having being 4 down at one stage before staging a brilliant comeback. Eddie Balfe & Patsy Kavanagh put in a great effort before eventually losing their game in Charlesland.

Congratulations to all players on a great performance and also to the management team of Paul Connolly,. Murt Mangan and Jason Rackard. A semi-final against the winners of Woodbrook and Killeen awaits. That potential 3rd Barton Cup just got one step closer……

INTER CLUB RESULTS
Our Provincial Towns team have advanced to the semi-finals with a great win over a tough Borris G.C. team. Eunan Doyle and Denis Dunne had wins away. Sean Hegarty, Jim Mackey and Davy Murphy all won at home with Eddie Doyle and Shane Fortune being called in whilst leading. Declan Byrne and James Foley lost tough battles in Borris. The team is managed by John Byrne and Tim Morrissey. Next match is against Newbridge G.C. with 5 matches away and 4 at home.

Our Senior Cup team lost a tight match against Carlow Golf Club 3-2. Dayle Donohoe and Jason Rackard won their games. Graham Donohoe, Maurice Donohoe and David Mernagh put in a great effort but unfortunately came out second best on the day. Hard luck to the players and to their manager Eddie Doyle. Interesting feature to note is that this team had a father and two sons playing on the team together.

The Brennan Cup team have lost 3 games to 2 in Woodbrook G.C. Hard luck to all concerned. Apologies as I do not have any more information on this at the time of writing.

GENERAL NEWS
We ran a new and interesting competition last week in conjunction with the US Open where we randomly paired up contestants from our own Wednesday midweek 9 hole competition with contestants at the US Open. Their scores were added together to determine the winners. Our winners from the 47 entrants were 1st Dan Byrne 20 pts (Brooks Koepke 40 & 41), total 101 pts – €50. 2nd John Furlong 19 pts (Hideki Matsuyama 37 & 42), total 98 pts – €25. 3rd Con Fleming 20 pts (Brian Harmon 41 & 36) 97 pts – €19. All prizes were vouchers for the Pro Shop. Look out for another but different competition in conjunction with the Irish Open shortly.

The ‘Split the Pot’ was drawn last Sunday and Liz Browne was the winner of €74.

INTER CLUB RESULTS
Our Jimmy Bruen Cup team took part in regional qualifying in New Ross G. C. on Saturday morning last. 16 teams teed it up in stroke play qualifying on Saturday with the top 4 teams making it through to match play stage Sunday morning. We were out first on Saturday morning at 8am alongside hosts New Ross. The team were hoping to match last year’s performance when we won our regional qualifier in Bunclody G.C. Unfortunately this was not to be as our team missed out on qualifying for Sundays match play stage by a single stroke in a sun drenched New Ross G. C. Hard luck to all concerned. The team was Davy & Nicky Murphy, Shane Fortune & Frankie Morrissey, Philip Browne & James Morrissey, Denis Dunbar & Sean Hegarty and finally Alan Jacob & Josh Martin. Team managers were Nigel Cullen, Shane Dunphy & Maurice Nolan.

Our Barton Cup team were playing Callan G. C. last Thursday afternoon with the winners to advance to the quarter finals of the competition. We had 3 matches at home and two matches away with first games teeing off at 4pm in Enniscorthy and 4.20pm in Callan. We are delighted to report that the team have won their match against a very strong Callan G. C. 3 games to 2 and have secured their place in the quarter finals. Adam Jordan & Nicky Murphy won at home with Frankie & James Morrissey and Paul Conroy & Butch O’Connor winning away. Shane Fortune & Martin Sludds and Eddie Doyle & Paul Lynch lost their games to strong pairings from Callan. Congratulations on a great performance to all of our players and to the management team of Paul Connolly, Murt Mangan, Jason Rackard.

Food served after last orders will be cold plate only and must be ordered before last order time above, and can be ordered in Bar or Pro Shop. Catering outside these hours will be by prior arrangement only. In the event of the course being closed due to inclement weather the catering hours may be curtailed.

INTER CLUB RESULTS
Our Provincial Towns team have won through to the QF by beating Ballymoney GC on Sunday. There were 5 matches at home and 4 in Ballymoney GC. Sean Hegarty, Jim Mackey, Davy Murphy won their home matches with the last two players, Willy Dobbs and Eddie Doyle called in. The away team was Declan Byrne, Eunan Doyle and Denis Dunne who all won and James Foley was called in. Tim Morrissey and John Byrne were the managers. Their next game is at home against the winners of Borris and Kilkenny.

Our Junior Cup team were in action in a wet and windy Courtown G. C. in our regional qualifier on last weekend. We were leading qualifiers in Saturdays stroke play and qualified to play Rosslare G. C. in Sunday mornings match play semi-final. After a tough battle we won through on a scoreline of 3 games to 2. We then faced a very good Woodenbridge G. C. team in Sunday afternoons final. Paul Conroy made the winning birdie putt in a tight game on the 18th after David Mernagh and James Morrissey had earlier put points on the board. Joe Delaney had come out on the wrong end of a tough battle while Murty Dempsey was 3 up playing the 15th when called in. Adam Jordan was also an integral part of the team having played his part on Saturday. Congrats to all players and to managers PJ Murphy and Denis Dunbar. This is the second year in a row where we have qualified for the Leinster quarter finals by winning our regional qualifier. Well done on some great performances in some very testing conditions by all of our players.

We now have two teams who have reached a quarter final stage with the Junior Cup team now joining the Provincial Towns team. Hopefully now our Barton Cup team will join them on Thursday evening next when they will be up against Callan G. C. Our course committee are looking for green fingered volunteers to help in maintaining our shrub and flower beds on the course and around the car park. If you are interested in joining this intrepid crew then please contact the office for further details. A huge amount of volunteer work is done around the club and new faces are always welcome to take the pressure off of the regular and reliable contributors. Ask not what your club can do for you but what you can do for your club.
Our Brooklyn Restaurant is doing great business of late and the testimony is in the numbers of patrons. Excellent fare is on offer with great value quality meals available all day long. Rave reviews have been coming in about the quality and value of the food on offer in recent months. The restaurant is open to everybody and is not just for members.

GENERAL NEWS
We held the first of what we hope to be an annual event for all the football clubs that play in the Wexford Football Leagues last Saturday. The ladies, men and the referees were all invited. There was a great turnout from clubs from all over the county being represented with four of their members. The only fly in the ointment was the couple of teams that didn’t show up without even as much as a phone call to let us know that they weren’t coming. It just messes up the time sheet for everyone else. The best three scores formed the team result and there was a singles tournament within that too for the best players on the day. The results were – Team results: 1st Taghmon United 98 pts, (Joe Cashin, Ryan Cashin, Peter Marshall and Seamus McLoughlin). 2nd Cloughbawn B 93 pts,(Terry Brady, Eddie Dreelan, Johnny Dreelan and Murt Dreelan) and 3rd Shamrock Rovers 92 pts, (Danny Kearney, Dermot Kelly, Jack Murphy and Seamus Murphy). – Singles results: 1st Terry Brady 37 pts (Cloughbawn), 2nd Derek Kavanagh 36 pts (Tombrack United) and Jack Murphy 34 pts B9 (Shamrock Rovers). The presentation to the winners will be done towards the end of the year, probably in October, along with a few other competitions. You will all be informed in due course. We also ran a little sideline competition for the day that was in it of guessing the minute of the first goal scored in the Champions League Final. The winner was Paudie Kehoe representing Cloughbawn United who wins the contents of the pot which was €102. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all competitors and we hope to see you all again next year.

GENERAL NEWS
Due to the inclement weather last weekend we unfortunately had to cancel the first of the seasons majors and it will be played on a date yet to be determined.

Eight of our Special Olympics golfers took part in the Leinster Regional Games which were held in the Royal Curragh Golf Club last Monday 22nd May. In total they came home with an exceptional haul of five gold, one silver, one bronze and a fifth place too.
The gold medal winners were Kevin Codd who played 18 holes singles with Michael Dillon as his caddy, Noel Murphy & Paul Cosgrave playing 9 holes alternate shots, Mary Morris, Ryan Morrissey and David Murphy displaying their golf skills. A silver medal went Stephen Murphy & Liam Dunbar who also played 9 hole alternate shot. A bronze medal was awarded to James Byrne & John Colclough who also played 9 hole alternate shot. Martin Breen was joint fifth in the golf skills. Congratulations to all and well done.

We have a brand new ball dispenser for the driving range. The new machine is now situated beside entrance door to the Mens locker room. There will no longer be a ball dispenser up at the driving range. Those using the range can, as per usual get their tokens and basket in the shop and simply collect their range balls before driving/walking up to range. We would ask, if possible, that baskets are returned to the shop after use. Finally, we would again kindly ask members and visitors not to collect balls themselves from the range.

INTER CLUB TEAM RESULTS
Our AIG Barton Shield team were in action in a regional qualifer in Coollattin G. C. on Saturday and Sunday 20th and 21st May. Some great play on the Saturday saw us qualifying as leading qualifiers to play in Sunday mornings semi-final against Courtown G. C. Unfortunately, the games didn’t go our way on Sunday and Courtown won by 2 holes. Despite the defeat we can be proud of our efforts as this is the first time since 2011, when we went on to become Leinster champions, that we have qualified for the semi-finals in a regional qualifier. Well played to our pairings of Graham & Maurice Donohoe and Paul Lynch & Jason Rackard. The team was managed by Denis Dunne.

Our Brennan Cup team, managed by Paul Connolly, were also in action last weekend. We had an away draw, meaning that all 5 games were played away. Despite this challenge of playing all games in Blainroe G. C. we advanced to the next round by beating our hosts on a score of 3 games to 2. Congratulations to all concerned.

The Barton Cup team are playing the European Club in the 3rd round of the competition on Thursday 25th at 3pm with 3 games in the challenging Wicklow links and 2 at home.

The Provincial Towns are also playing in the 3rd round of their competition with a match against Ballymoney G. C. on Sunday 4th June at 3:30 pm. We have 5 matches at home and 4 away. Please come along and support the teams if you can.

There was a table quiz last Thursday night in aid of famine relief in Africa organised by St. Aidan’s Cathedral. 16 tables took part, great to see so many attend a quiz night in the clubhouse. If only we could get a regular one up and running for the members participation to raise club funds. The winners on the night were, yet again for three in a row now, club members Tom Furlong and Matty Mernagh who were more than ably assisted by Judy Donnelly and Paul Murphy. A special word of thanks to all the generous sponsors and to the very capable Bernie Morrissey who was quizmaster for the night.

INTER CLUB TEAM RESULTS
Our Pierce Purcell team were in action in a wet and windy Gowran Park G.C. in the regional qualifiers last Saturday. Unfortunately, we were unlucky with the timing of the draw and ended up playing in the more difficult weather conditions on the day. Despite this we only missed out on qualifying for Sundays match play stage by 3 strokes. Hard luck to the players who put in a valiant effort namely David Boland, Dick Britton, Dan Byrne, Nicky Cahill, Paddy Fitzpatrick, Ger Flood, Ray Hutchinson, Peter O’Shea, Chris Timmons, Ger Turner and in particular to manager Ed Morrison.

Enniscorthy Chamber of Commerce had a very successful classic at the club last Friday, unfortunately the weather wasn’t great but that didn’t deter dozens of players from turning up. The results were as follows – 1st: Paddy Fitzpatrick (14), Frankie Morrissey (9), James Morrissey (6) and Mick Rossiter (18) with 57.3 pts. 2nd: Dan Conroy (28), Paul Conroy (5), Joe Kavanagh (28) and Jim Pepper (22) with 57.7 pts. 3rd: Damien Byrne (17), Jim Byrne (12), Eddie Doyle (6) and Tommy O’Rourke (25) with 59.9 pts.

There are an alarming number of the sand bags missing from the course, over 900 since they were introduced, can you all have a look in your garages, sheds and car boots and bring them back please. This includes mens, ladies and their referees too. We are looking for 4 representatives from each club to play in both a combined singles and team event. The best three scores form the team result and there will be singles prizes too for the best players on the day. Please reply to the e-mails that have already been sent out by May 20th in order to register your team please.

• Sean na Gael Classic is on Thursday 18th May at 14:00pm and Friday 19th May at 8:30am.
