GENERAL NEWS

Some news involving some of our exceptional members on the national and international front…

Well done to our Sean Cooper and the Leinster under 14 boys who last Saturday defeated Munster in the Interprovincials at Mount Wolseley and as if that wasn’t enough the Leinster boys beat Ulster the following day in the final.
Our juniors were in the area final of the Irish Boys Inter-Club in Royal Curragh Golf Club. Team is Ruairi Cooper, brothers Adam & William Murphy, Daniel Murphy & Tom Quigley.
Sean & Ruairi Cooper were in action in the Irish U14 Boys Championship in Co. Longford Golf Club. Sean has had a series of strong performances recently following up his win in the Ulster U14 Boys Championship with a T3 finish in the Connacht U14 Boys Championship followed by a T4 overall and winning the U15 category in the Munster U16 Boys Championship. This has all lead to the magnificent achievement of winning the Irish U14 Boys Amateur Open Championship for Sean, followed by selection on the Irish under 16 team. Sean was part of the Irish U16 Boys and Girls team who played the Netherlands in a two-day international match in Donabate Golf Club. On his debut he lost the foursomes and singles on the first day of play and on the following day reversed this and won both games. Ireland eventually lost out to the Netherlands on a score of 14.5 to 13.5 with Sean scoring 2 out of a possible 4 points for his country. We are all immensely proud of this fine young man and his highly talented brother Ruairi. Sincerest congratulations from all at the club.
Then it was on to Porters Park G.C., Radlett in Hertfordshire where a very creditable performance was had in coming tied T14 in the English Boys U14 stroke play Reid Championship and the following week it was onwards to the Scottish Boys U14 Championship in Kirkaldy, Scotland. Finishing position was a marvellous sixth. Is Padraig Harrington watching?!!!

Congratulations to Paul Conroy who put in a series of great performances in the South of Ireland Amateur Championship at Lahinch Golf Club before eventually bowing out at the semi-final stage. Jason Rackard also played some lovely golf before eventually losing out on the 19th hole in the 2nd round of the match play stage of the competition.
Paul played in the Mullingar Scratch Cup where he was following up on Jason Rackards brilliant win in the competition last year, eventually finishing in a tie for third place. A creditable performance.
Paul Conroy played in the final 2 rounds of the Irish Amateur Close Championship in Tullamore Golf Club following a 5 under par 65, Paul was in 3^rdplace just 1 shot off the lead, eventually finishing in a tie for 10th place 6 shots behind the winner.
Our Senior Cup team played and beat Tralee Golf Club in the All-Ireland Quarter Finals at the Castle Golf Club in Rathfarnham, Dublin. Unfortunately we lost a tight match in the semi to Tramore Golf Club on a score line of 3 games to 2 with 2 of those losses coming on the 18th hole and the other on the 17th. However, all the players and their manager Murt Mangan, are to be congratulated on the fantastic golf they have played this year to pick up our first Gent’s Senior Cup Pennant and to reach an All-Ireland Semi-Final for the first time. The team panel was Graham Donohoe, Dayle Donohoe, Jason Rackard, Lar Ronan, Sean Cooper, David Mernagh, Cormac Martin and Paul Conroy.
Our Irish Mixed Foursomes team lost out in a tight battle against Baltinglass in the Leinster Central Semi-Final. It took a chip in birdie on the first extra hole in Enniscorthy to decide the match, hard luck to all concerned.

It is that time of the year for the annual awards ceremony to mark the end of the season. Many were gathered in the clubhouse last Saturday for food and beverages and of course the presentations.

Golfer of the year was won by Lar Ronan, cup presented by Eoin Redmond. Cup named in honour of Eugene Redmond.

James thanked the greenkeepers for the excellent condition of the course and that we, the members, are blessed to have the greens and fairways in the condition they are in.

Club four ball winners were Nicky Murphy and that man again Lar Ronan who said it was an honour to be here tonight and that he was just glad to be back playing golf again. They beat James Sheridan and Charlie Hogg in the final and it was all over on the 16^th.

Since last April there has been a 9 hole competition every Wednesday and the overall and any of the 4 category winners (50No.) were invited to play for the Champion of Champions cup last Saturday in honour of our late long time member John Jordan with the cup sponsored by his great friend Ger Turner. This is a hugely successful competition over the years and always has a high participation rate with 1994 entries this year. This competition was the brainchild of Tommy Cooper way back in 2004 when the champions cup was introduced, prior to that it had been running as a standalone weekly competition for some twenty years.

In his victory speech John Mernagh thanked Ger for sponsoring the competition and that indeed it is a great competition that very few other clubs can match for its longevity. He then thanked Tom Kirwan for being a stalwart of the administration of these competitions and that his work does not go unnoticed and that he is a great servant to the club.

Enniscorthy Golf Club Charity Weekend 2021

Building on the successful fundraising efforts of previous years, in particular the ever popular “Play in Pink” day in aid of breast cancer research and last year’s fundraiser for Pieta House, we are running a charity weekend on 25^th& 26^th September with all funds raised going to the National Breast Cancer Research Institute and to Wexford based It’s Good 2 Talk Counselling support service.

Format of the competition will be a four person champagne scramble with an entry fee of €25 per person which will include a €5 voucher for food in the bar afterwards with equivalent prizes for ladies, gents and mixed teams. The competition will be semi-open so please feel free to invite family and friends to join you on the day. Players can play in the scramble both days should they wish however the same team cannot play twice.

In addition on the same weekend there will also be a ladies 9 hole singles stableford competition with an entry fee of €10. Ladies, please feel free to play in both the scramble and the 9 hole competition should you so wish.

Given that half the funds raised will be going to breast cancer research we would encourage as many of you as possible to “Play in Pink” while playing in the competition over the weekend with a fantastic prize on offer to both the best pink dressed lady and gents golfer.

There will also be a raffle for an array of wonderful prizes with tickets on sale in the run-up to the event.

The timesheets are now open for booking and, given the generosity of our members in supporting worthy charities as shown from previous fundraising efforts, are likely to fill up fast so please ensure you get your name down as soon as possible.

A number of local businesses and individuals have already agreed to sponsor and/or provide a donation to support our fundraising efforts but we would obviously welcome all additional support. Please contact any of the committee below if you wish to provide sponsorship or make a donation.

A word of thanks also to the members of the “Brittle Bones” who are planning on contributing to the fundraising efforts from their weekly game on Thursday 23^rdSeptember.

GENERAL NEWS

Club singles and club fourball competitions –these are now at the quarter final/ semi final stages with some intriguing matches coming up and they are posted in the locker rooms and also on handicap m Please see the draw and arrange your match as soon as possible as all matches must be completed by the fixed date and there will be no extensions past the completion date of each round. First named players are responsible for organising the match. Club singles and club fourball competitions – The presentation to the winners of those competitions is scheduled for Saturday 2^nd October so please have the finals played by that date.
New buggy paths have been installed in the last fortnight in 5 locations, namely anywhere where there is a steep slope i.e. on fairways 7, 8, 11, 14 and 16/17 combined. It is now compulsory for all motorised buggys to use these paths all year round.
At the men’s committee meeting on Tuesday 7^th September it was decided to reintroduce both signatures on the card for competitions and it will commence for the vice captain’s/vice president’s prize competition on the weekend of the 18^th & 19^th of September.

INTERCLUB TEAM COMPETITION NEWS AND RESULTS

Senior Cup – Team manager is Jason Rackard.

Match 1 was against Rosslare which we won 3 to 2.

Match 2 was against Kilkenny which we won 4 to 1.

Match 3 was against Baltinglass. which we won 3.5 to 1.5.

Match 4 was against Heritage which we won 3.5 to 1.5.

Match 5 was against Mullingar. This was the Leinster Central area final with 2 games at home and 3 games away. The team won Enniscorthy Golf Club’s first ever Senior Cup pennant. Graham Donohoe won at home with Jason Rackard and Paul Conroy winning away. Dayle Donohoe at home and Cormac Martin away were called in. As with any team sport it requires a panel of players to be successful rather than just a team and therefore Sean Cooper and David Mernagh are also to be congratulated for their efforts in earlier rounds in getting the team to this stage.

Match 6 will be the All-Ireland Quarter final in the Castle Golf Club on 20th August against Tralee Golf Club with the winner advancing to a semi-final the following day.

The Clubhouse is now open for indoor and outdoor dining and beverages.
The Captains Prize (Mr Pat Webster) took place last weekend, the biggest tournament of the year – the one where there are many hopes, dreams and illusions of actually winning something at the outset but unfortunately those are shattered for most competitors!!! Time sheets were full with a waiting list as well such was the demand. The Captain in his prizegiving speech stated that he enjoyed his day and the build up to the few days of competition, scoring was excellent and that it was great to finally see a good crowd in the clubhouse after the competition conclusion with a buzz in the air and a semblance of social normality returning. Pat was also very pleased with the support received from so many people, too many to mention, to over the previous weeks to make for a smooth running of the weekend.
From all on the men’s side of the club a hearty congratulations to Margaret Stafford on winning the Lady Captains Prize (Mrs Meta Cummins) 18 hole competition last weekend and to Margaret Cooper on winning the 9 hole competition.

On behalf of everyone in Enniscorthy Golf Club we would like to congratulate Sean Cooper on his fantastic achievement in winning the Irish U14 Boys Championship in Co. Longford Golf Club. Sean was part of a 3 hole play off to decide the winner and birdied the 3rd play-off hole to take the title after the trio finished on +3. He received his trophy from Golf Ireland President, John White. A brilliant chip from in front of the water hazard on the 18^th green, saw Cooper almost hold his short for an eagle, but a tap in birdie proved enough to win the title.

Is there no end to the records Jason will achieve? Graham Donohue will have to try hard to get his previous record back again!

This week we are delighted to welcome the cream of Ireland’s under 18 boys golfers as Enniscorthy is hosting the Leinster U18 Boys Championship. We received a lovely letter from the winner of the Leinster U18 Boys Championship held here last week, Gavin O’Neill playing out of the Malahide G.C. He thanked us for hosting the competition and stated that the course was first class and thanked our members for giving up the course for three days to allow the competition to take place. Lastly he said he was looking forward to playing the course again some time. You’ll be welcome back anytime Gavin.
The winners and supporters of The Captain’s Prize to the Ladies gathered for the first prizegiving of the year This was to take place on the adjacent practice putting green, but the elements decided otherwise. So history was made as the prestigious ceremony took place under the balcony! Photo shows all the winners being presented with their prizes by Captain Pat. A wonderful display of prizes, many thanks for your generosity Captain Pat.

We are looking for volunteers to assist in the running of the sessions which involves supervising a small group during their driving range activities and on the course for about 2 hours in total. They are back again, the winter rules. Lift, clean and place on the fairway within 6 inches or lift, clean and drop when in the rough.
From Friday the 9th of October we will be instigating a Friday 9 hole all day competition and members (€3) and visitors (€10) can enter if they so desire. The competition will be a non qualifier. Please remember that you must sign in in the proshop prior to the competition.
The Bar & Restaurant is closed until further notice due to pandemic restrictions.

Junior golf Programme 2020
In a year where it looked like we might have no Junior summer camp because of the coronavirus, we can now look back on a most satisfactory programme which began in June and ran each Wednesday morning until August 26th. Of the eleven planned days three were lost to the weather but the remainder saw in excess of 40 participants each day in the 8 to 14 age category enjoying various activities over a 2 hour period. This included driving, chipping and putting exercises as well as actual play in scramble format on the course.
With Covid guidelines in mind and cognisant of the health and safety of all concerned, considerable time went in to planning the format of all aspects of the programme. Staggered arrival times, pods and designated mentors were the order of the day. A core group of volunteers were needed and clear messaging was required to ensure the smooth running of each mornings activities. This was the first opportunity these youngsters had since lockdown to join such a programme and their enthusiasm knew no bounds. Likewise the parents, who saw the great advantage of this structured outdoor fun activity for the kids.
Groups of 8 arrived at 20 minute intervals and each participant was a member of a pod of 4 with a dedicated mentor who brought them to their starting area and stayed with them for the duration. Sessions lasted 2 hours so parents knew when to return for picking them up.
Testament to the success of the programme is that our Autumn programme of two session per month in Sept/Oct is fully subscribed already. Our greatest satisfaction was from being able to get these youngsters out on the course in the fresh air for a few hours each week in a year when so many restrictions applied to their activities. Many thanks to Stephen Fitzpatrick for his organisation skills and to the many volunteers who helped.
In conjunction with this programme our junior golfers with playing handicaps took part in a weekly competition each Wednesday morning over 18 holes on the full course. Amongst the winners were Daniel Murphy twice with 47 and 41 points, Bill Quigley with 49 points, Niall Kehoe and our Junior captain Jamie Donnelly with 37 points.
Our only inter club match was a junior under 18 qualifier in Kilkenny in July. The club team of five consisted of Jamie Donnelly, Seam Walsh, Daniel Murphy and brothers Adam and William Murphy. While not making it through to the next round, all had a very enjoyable day in the sunshine and the experience will stand them in good stead for future years.

• The PGA winter series for 2020/21 started once again last Saturday. This competition is scheduled to run every second week, a competition in its own right with 3 prizes, from October to February and is open to ALL members who have a handicap. The format is simple. You can play in as many or as few as you like, but to get on the order of merit (OOM) you need 2 scores and this OOM will be published after every competition to keep you updated and to see if your name is on the list! At the end of the penultimate week the top 30 on the OOM will qualify for the Grand Final where you start from scratch, the winner will be whoever has the lowest score on the day. The second best prize will be the best 3 score aggregate over the winter. There will be a gross prize along with the top 6 on the day. This year the winner will receive the PGA Trophy, €100 shop credit and a very special prize to be announced soon.
• Congratulations to the Starlights on winning the Wexford Senior Football Club Final. Several members of the panel are members of EGC, namely Jack Kelly, Dillon Redmond, Dayle Donohue, Killian Lett, Conor Farrell, Ben Edwards and mentor Maurice Donohue. Well done to all.

• Great to see our members winning competitions away from Home. Well done Frankie Morrissey on winning the Black Tee Challenge Final in Macreddin Golf Club last weekend with a score of 38 pts.

• There was an International Thank a Green Keeper Day recently. So, from all at EGC a BIG thank you to PJ, Sean, John, James, Graham & for keeping our course in fabulous condition all year round, especially this year given all the restrictions and challenges that have presented themselves. A great crew that keep the course in great condition. Well done lads the course is a credit to you all and your hard work.
• PGA WINTER SERIES 2020/21: Saturday October 10th sees the the first week of our PGA winter series. This competition runs every 2nd week from October to February and is open to ALL members who have a handicap. The format is simple. Groups of 8 arrived at 20 minute intervals and each participant was a member of a pod of 4 with a dedicated mentor who brought them to their starting area and stayed with them for the duration. Sessions lasted 2 hours so parents knew when to return for picking them up.
Testament to the success of the programme is that our Autumn programme of two session per month in Sept/Oct is fully subscribed already. Our greatest satisfaction was from being able to get these youngsters out on the course in the fresh air for a few hours each week in a year when so many restrictions applied to their activities. Many thanks to Stephen Fitzpatrick for his organisation skills and to the many volunteers who helped.
In conjunction with this programme our junior golfers with playing handicaps took part in a weekly competition each Wednesday morning over 18 holes on the full course. Amongst the winners were Daniel Murphy twice with 47 and 41 points, Bill Quigley with 49 points, Niall Kehoe and our Junior captain Jamie Donnelly with 37 points.
Our only inter club match was a junior under 18 qualifier in Kilkenny in July. The club team of five consisted of Jamie Donnelly, Seam Walsh, Daniel Murphy and brothers Adam and William Murphy. While not making it through to the next round, all had a very enjoyable day in the sunshine and the experience will stand them in good stead for future years.

INTER CLUB TEAM COMPETITION RESULTS
JIMMY BRUEN: Managed by Declan Byrne & Declan Lyons, the team were very unlucky on the day unfortunately losing to a strong New Ross team in the first round – won 2 at home and lost the 3 away matches.

JUNIOR CUP: Managed by Murt Mangan and Paul Connolly. In the first round the team put in a very strong performance to overcome St. Helen’s Bay winning both games away and the first 2 games at home with the final game at home finishing all square after 18. A 4-1 victory. Next up was a very tough battle against Blainroe Golf Club ending with a winning scoreline of 3 – 2, with Sean Cooper and James Morrissey winning at home and David Mernagh winning on the 19th hole away. Martin Sludds lost a close match at home on the 19th while Sean Hegarty put in a strong performance before eventually losing the remaining away match. Next round against Waterford GC… Sean Cooper won at home, James Morrissey lost on the 18th away, Sean Hegarty lost on the 20th, David Mernagh called in on the 20th hole as Martin Sludds had lost his game at home resulting in 3:2 win for Waterford.

SENIOR CUP: Managed by Michael Coffey and Eddie Doyle. Played Rosslare in the first round and beaten 3-2, won 2/3 at home, and lost both away matches in a very close contest with the last match going to the 19th hole. We wish the Rosslare Senior Cup team the very best of luck in their future matches.

PIERCE PURCELL: Managed by Pat Webster & Tim Morrissey. First match was against Borris, 3 games at home and 2 away in a very tight contest. In the second round we took on Mount Wolseley. We won both games at home but unfortunately were unable to overcome their home advantage in the 3 games away in Mount Wolseley.
Won 1st round beating Borris 3:2 – won 3 at home, lost 2 away.
Lost 2nd round to Mt Wolseley 3:2 – won 2 at home, lost 3 away.

BARTON CUP: Managed by John Byrne. In the first round we took on local rivals Bunclody Golf Club. The team played some great golf to advance to the next round. Next up was Wicklow Golf Club with 2 games at home and 3 games away. This was a very tight match which Wicklow Golf Club won by 3 games to 2. Sean Hegarty and James Sheridan won the first match at home with Frankie Morrissey & Davy Murphy winning the second match away. Murt Mangan & Niall Murphy and James Morrissey & Declan Byrne both lost tight matches in Wicklow on the 17th and 18th holes respectively meaning that it all came down to the final game at home where Martin Sludds and Eddie Balfe tried their best but they unfortunately lost to a birdie on the 5th extra hole. Hard luck to all concerned.

• An update on the money raised on our Breast Cancer fundraiser day. The total raised was €6,686 euros. The Ladies Committee would like to thank everyone who helped in any way. • In an effort to support the invaluable work Pieta House provides to our community throughout Ireland, and particularly in Wexford, we are holding a fundraising classic on Saturday and Sunday the 19th and 20th September. The format of the event will be an Open 4 person Champagne Scramble and the cost of entry will be €20 per person for both members and guests/visitors with all proceeds from the weekend going directly to Pieta House for their work in Wexford.
• A fantastic afternoon at Enniscorthy Golf Club as 45 kids played competitive golf for the first time. An individual event and a team event saw some great golf played in a great spirit. Hopefully the first of many competitions to come for them.

JUNIOR SECTION
Junior Golf Programme 2020.
In a year where it looked like we might have no Junior summer camp because of the coronavirus, we can now look back on a most satisfactory programme which began in June and ran each Wednesday morning until August 26th. Of the eleven planned days three were lost to the weather but the remainder saw in excess of 40 participants each day in the 8 to 14 age category enjoying various activities over a 2 hour period. This included driving, chipping and putting exercises as well as actual play in scramble format on the course.
With Covid guidelines in mind and cognisant of the health and safety of all concerned, considerable time went in to planning the format of all aspects of the programme. Staggered arrival times, pods and designated mentors were the order of the day. A core group of volunteers were needed and clear messaging was required to ensure the smooth running of each mornings activities. This was the first opportunity these youngsters had since lockdown to join such a programme and their enthusiasm knew no bounds. Likewise the parents, who saw the great advantage of this structured outdoor fun activity for the kids.

GENERAL NEWS
• We recently held a very successful Open Week over eleven days with a variety of competitions to suit all tastes. Many thanks to our sponsors, namely Simon Kavanagh Motors; Maxol Bellefield Road, Calor Gas, Tyreworld, Ballyhuskard Conservatories, H. Murphy & Co., Greenville Stores, PK Tiles and Martins Jewellers.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the various competitions held over the course of Open Week 2020 and congratulations to all prize winners. Credit must also go to PJ Dempsey and his course staff for presenting the course in such great condition throughout the week.
• Huge congratulations to the Shelmaliers trio of Joe Kelly, Eoin Doyle and Conor Hearne who backboned their Club in the County Senior Hurling Final yesterday in Wexford Park by overcoming the gallant challenge of Naomh Eanna, Gorey. Of course, all three are prominent members of Enniscorthy Golf Club as well as inter county GAA stars. Well done boys.
Likewise, heartiest congratulations to another pair of Enniscorthy Golf Club members, Declan Byrne and Niall Murphy, who played pivotal roles in Crossabeg-Ballymurn’s victory over Buffer’s Alley in the Co. Wexford Intermediate Hurling final yesterday in Wexford Park. Niall’s impressive 1-7 from play ensured his Man-of-the Match Award. We look forward to having you all back playing golf soon.
• Club member, Paul Conroy, competed in the Royal Birkdale in the Amateur Championship recently. It’s a testament to Pauls skill and efforts over the last number of years that he had the opportunity to tee it up in such a world famous event. Unfortunately he didn’t make the cut to advance to the final 64.
• Another hole in one to report, Brendan Byrne on the 12th. Congratulations.
• An update on the money raised on our Breast Cancer fundraiser day. The total raised was €6,686 euros . The Ladies Committee would like to thank everyone who helped in any way. A special word of thanks to David and Ben for their incredible golfathon. We thank all those who gave money whether by playing in the competition or giving to the raffle.
• In an effort to support the invaluable work Pieta House provides to our community throughout Ireland, and particularly in Wexford, we are holding a fundraising classic on Saturday and Sunday the 19th and 20th September. The format of the event will be an Open 4 person Champagne Scramble and the cost of entry will be €20 per person for both members and guests/visitors with all proceeds from the weekend going directly to Pieta House for their work in Wexford.
o We are very lucky to have so many local individuals and businesses who are willing to sponsor our competitions as without them it would not be possible to run many of the competitions and give out the prizes we do. Please make note of who they are and give them some of your business in return.
o Following a hugely exciting but delayed Grand Final, Brian O’Connor has been crowned the Winter Series Champion for 2020. Brians 44 pts was enough to take the title by 3 strokes from Brendan Byrne who captured the 3 round aggregate prize. Many thanks to all 138 competitors who entered this years competition.

o Casual Golf tee times will revert to Pre-Covid 19 opening of 14 days in advance from Tuesday 4th August until further notice.
o We are pleased to announce that new flags have been secured for the greens through the kind sponsorship of Mr. Ciarán Mooney of Mr Oil. The colours are: Yellow – front; White – Middle and Orange – back of green. Scorecards have been modified in line with colour changes. Likewise, new pins have also been purchased for the greens, thanks to the generosity of a loyal, long standing club member who wishes to remain anonymous.

Due to shortened time available to complete the competitions and to the number of entrants the deadlines for completion of each round are relatively tight therefore you are recommended to play as early as possible.

o Please note adjustments to the opening hours in the clubhouse. Monday to Thursday will revert back to 10-6. Friday and Saturday will remain open until 7pm and Sunday will be 10-6pm. Last food orders are 1 hour before closing. This will be reassessed following any governmental guidelines. The Bar/Restaurant area has been carefully laid out to ensure that social distancing protocols are adhered to.
o Enniscorthy Golf Club is the most successful club in the country for winning provincial and national honours and that record has been enhanced with the winning of two extra cups, The Provincial Towns Challenge Cup and the Barton Cup. Why not join the club and see for yourself what makes this club so good. Junior coaching is top of the range, the facilities are brilliant and the course has to be one of the best in the region as it has the strange ability to be a challenge for the expert and a pleasure for the novice golfer at the same time. o We are very lucky to have so many local individuals and businesses who are willing to sponsor our competitions as without them it would not be possible to run many of the competitions and give out the prizes we do. Please make note of who they are and give them some of your business in return.
o The club ran a hugely successful fundraiser last week for Breast Cancer Research. A cause that unfortunately is close to many. Three competitions were scheduled, namely, a team of 3 ladies had a champagne scramble; a ladies 9 hole competition and a gents 9 hole competition.
As usual our theme was to “PLAY IN PINK” with prizes for the “most pink” lady and the “most pink” gent. The winners of the best dressed lady and gent went to Mr and Mrs Browne alias Elizabeth Browne and Keith Donnelly who bore a remarkable resemblance to another Mrs Brown of TV fame.
Interspersed and entwining these competitions two of our more youthful, talented and energetic members planned a golfathon from sunrise to sunset. Namely Ben Kidd and David Mernagh,who deserve huge praise for their efforts. They played golf non-stop for six full rounds for 108 holes with club members letting them play through and they even found time for an interview with South East Radio. They claimed it was a long tiring day but the buzz and atmosphere around the club on the day is what drove them on and made it worth every minute. At the time of writing the amount raised had surpassed €6000 so well done to the two lads on a fantastic effort.

o On behalf of every EGC member I extend our heartiest congratulations to Jason Rackard on his fantastic win in the prestigious Mullingar Scratch Cup. Finishing on 10 under par after 3 rounds and ahead of the cream of Irish amateur golf by two shots. Over the 3 rounds Jason shot a faultless back 9, no bogeys and 10 birdies which proved to be the difference on the run in. The field included 3 of the top 100 ranked golfers in the world. Previous winners of this trophy include Darren Clarke, Padraig Harrington, Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy. What illustrious company!

o Membership subscriptions for 2020 are due for payment on or before the 28th February.
Members can pay by standing order, direct debit, through online banking or over the phone. The fixtures diary and reciprocal passes should be available for collection in the office next week.

• A fundraising Table Quiz is organised for Friday the 29th of November in the Club House. It starts at 8.30pm teams of 4 people. Cost per team is €40.00. This event has been run over the past few years and monies collected go towards club inter-club competition teams. As in previous years a donation will be made on behalf of the Club to Special Olympics from the proceeds. As always your support will be greatly appreciated.

GENERAL NEWS
• They are back. Effective from 2nd October 2019 winter rules will be in force until further notice. When a player’s ball lies in the general area the ball may be lifted, cleaned and replaced without penalty. The player must mark the spot before lifting the ball and the ball must be replaced within 6 inches of its original spot, and not nearer the hole (see Rule 14).
Procedures for bunkers: When a player’s ball lies within a bunker the ball may be lifted and cleaned and bunker raked prior to ball being replaced in a spot as near as possible to position from which ball was lifted.
If ball in a bunker lies in temporary water player should find nearest point of complete relief not nearer the hole within bunker and follow the procedure above.
• The ladies section of the club have added yet another All Ireland title to their already long list. The Junior All Ireland Cup is back in the clubhouse yet again. Well done ladies. They beat Armagh Golf Club in the semi-final in Knightsbrook Golf Club on Saturday and advanced to the final against Limerick Golf Club the following day. By all accounts it was a fantastic and nailbiting win against Limerick G.C.
• Golf for the ladies – Are you new to golf and need an introductory basic course? If you would like more information please contact Maeve 086 888 9246 or Enniscorthy Golf Club office on 053 92 33191. There will be further groups starting as the year progresses so if you know anyone who’d like to give Golf a try why not suggest it to them. We have a number of initiatives (at minimal cost) designed to show them what a great sport golf is and what a great club Enniscorthy GC is. Also, our 3 month ‘Get in to golf’ programme for beginners is proving to be a runaway success, so much so that more programmes are being planned. Open to both male and females, contact Stephen Fitzpatrick on 053 92 37600 for more details.
• We have a new local rule regarding exposed tree roots now in force. There are a number of locations around the course where exposed tree roots can be found at the edges of fairways. In response to this we have now brought in a new local rule which will allow players to get a free drop away from these exposed roots when their ball rests against the root on the fairway. Free relief can be taken one club length, not nearer the hole, from the nearest point of complete relief from the exposed tree root. Players may take free relief under Rule 16.1b.
• Work on the construction of our new first green started last week and works are progressing well.
– As a result, the first green area will be a work site until the project is complete and will be deemed to be “Out of Bounds”
The following will apply from commencement of the work until further notice:-
The first green and surrounding area will be “Out of Bounds”- white lines will mark this.
– All play will start on the second teebox for competitions /society outings. Casual golfers may, if they wish, start on the 3rd tee or elsewhere.
– A shortened 18th hole with a temporary teebox will be in play Monday to Friday due to Health & Safety issues for those working on the new green.
– A temporary Par 3 will be in place between the 13th & 14th holes until the end of October.
As part of the grant aided work, drainage work on the 12th fairway, the front of the 13th green and the surrounds of the 17th green will also be completed during this time. This work will, by it’s nature, cause some disruption to play also and we seek your co-operation at all times.

• As you are all aware we now have a group of members who have volunteered to maintain the bunkers in conjunction with PJ and course staff. I am sure you will all agree that they have being doing great work. However, if people continue to neglect to rake bunkers after playing their shots, not only is this undoing much of the hard work maintaining the bunkers work but it is also showing no regard for fellow golfers. PLEASE RAKE ALL BUNKERS.

• There have been vast amounts of Driving Range tokens that have been purchased and not used yet. This causes us a problem as we have to keep re-ordering Tokens. However, if people continue to neglect to rake bunkers after playing their shots, not only is this undoing much of the hard work maintaining the bunkers work but it is also showing no regard for fellow golfers. GENERAL NEWS
Work on the construction of our new first green is due to commence during the week beginning 18th Sept. 2019.
– As a result, the first green area will be a work site until the project is complete and will be deemed to be “Out of Bounds”
The following will apply from commencement of the work until further notice:-
The first green and surrounding area will be “Out of Bounds”- white lines will mark this.
– All play will start on the second teebox for competitions /society outings. Casual golfers may, if they wish, start on the 3rd tee or elsewhere.
– A shortened 18th hole with a temporary teebox will be in play Monday to Friday due to Health & Safety issues for those working on the new green.
– A temporary Par 3 will be in place between the 13th & 14th holes until the end of October.
As part of the grant aided work, drainage work on the 12th fairway, the front of the 13th green and the surrounds of the 17th green will also be completed during this time. This work will, by it’s nature, cause some disruption to play also and we seek your co-operation at all times.

This enables you to introduce a new generation of golfer to Enniscorthy Golf Club and give them unlimited access to all the facilities, all year round, once they are accompanied by you. Ask in the office for additional details.

The fixtures diary for 2019 is now ready for collection from the office. Don’t forget to pick up your copy of the reciprocal golf pass which will permit full and 5 day members to play complimentary golf in Rosslare, Athy, Newbridge and Waterford this year on two occasions each. Bring your GUI/ILGU card. Membership is such good value in 2019 with the continuation of this arrangement. As we are twinned with Carmarthen Golf Club in Wales our members may also avail of their facilities too.
34 club members travelled to our twin club of Carmarthen Golf Club for an extremely enjoyable weekend of golf. Much fun was had by all concerned with good food and copious volumes of liquid refreshments, all accompanied by some great entertainment from our resident balladeers and raconteurs and maybe a bit of singing from the valleys too, which may have accounted for the less than stellar golf on Saturday!!!! Carmarthen G.C. hope to make the return trip next year and we look forward to providing them with the same welcome as we received this weekend. One person told me that he never had as much craic on a weekend away.

The clubhouse function room can be hired for private functions, christenings, communions, confirmation, birthdays, quizzes, weddings, retirements and funerals or any other function for that matter with bar facilities and catering available then just ring the bar manager Adrian on 083 300 4021.

We are seeking volunteers to work with the junior golf members. The persons needed are to be enthusiastic male members. This will primarily entail giving a hand on Wednesday mornings during the school holidays when our juniors have their competitions. The workload is quite small but we are obliged to properly supervise the juniors. Any volunteers with juniors will need to get/have Garda Vetting and do a Safeguarding course. If you are interested in this position then please contact Tim Morrissey, Junior Convenor, Stephen Fitzpatrick in the Pro Shop or Sinead Fortune in the office.

Our course committee are looking for green fingered volunteers to help in maintaining our shrub and flower beds on the course and around the car park now that spring is here. If you are interested in joining this intrepid crew or any of the other committees/volunteer groups then please contact the office for further details. A huge amount of volunteer work is done around the club and new faces are always welcome to take the pressure off of the regular and reliable contributors. Ask not what your club can do for you but what you can do for your club. Together, with teamwork, we can make a difference.

INTERCLUB TEAM COMPETITION NEWS AND RESULTS

AIG Senior Cup: Our senior panel are to be congratulated for their efforts last weekend in Blainroe Golf Club when they battled their way through to the Leinster final against Carton House. Unfortunately on the day we came up just short to the experienced Carton House team. However, the players involved have shown fantastic resilience and skill both this season and last in reaching a Barton Shield final last year and quarter final this year; Senior Cup semi final last year and final this year. Hopefully next year the lads can get the win their efforts have deserved. The team last weekend was Paul Conroy, Dayle Donohoe, Graham Donohoe, Adam Jordan and Jason Rackard with Eoin Doyle as reserve. Eddie Doyle managed the team.

- - Enniscorthy members Rurai Cooper won the Flogas Irish Junior Open under 9 and his brother Sean was second in the under 12 section recently. Young Rurai received a congratulatory phone call from none other than the great Gary Player on his momentous victory, sponsor of the trophy.

The news for the various competitions is as follows –

AIG Barton Shield: The team continued on their great form from last year, when they reached Leinster Final, by coming out on top in regional qualifying in Mount Juliet recently. They qualified in 2nd place in stroke-play qualifying and went on to defeat Courtown Golf Club before prevailing against Kilkenny Golf Club the same afternoon. We played the Island G.C. last weekend in Delgany, results next week.

AIG Junior Cup: in New Ross G.C. on 8^th June. Our Gents Junior Cup team were in action in regional qualifying in New Ross Golf Club last weekend and are hoping to qualify for a Leinster Quarter Final for a 4th year in succession. Update next week.

AIG Senior Cup: Well done to Eddie Doyle and his Senior Cup team of Jason Rackard, Paul Conroy, Graham Donohoe, Dayle Donohoe & Eoin Doyle who put in a series of great performances in regional qualifying in Courtown Golf Club by shooting the joint best score in strokeplay qualifying on Saturday and then beating both Kilkenny and Rosslare in match-play on Sunday. They have now qualified for Leinster Finals weekend in Blainroe Golf Club in August.

o The golf trip date for our visit to Carmarthen Golf Club has been set for 6^th, 7^thand 8^thSeptember 2019. It is intended to …….
• travel out on Friday morning with golf in the afternoon.
• play the second game on Saturday afternoon which will be a match against Carmarthen,

followed by entertainment and refreshments.
• return on Sunday
The cost of the trip is approximately €250 which includes ferry and cars and hotel for two nights & does not include travel insurance. Each individual will be responsible for organising their own travel insurance.
We need to block book rooms soon. An additional cost may be incurred if single rooms are required.
It is always advisable to have identification when travelling, and while passports are not necessary between the UK and Ireland, they make identification easier. The requirement of a passport may become compulsory if Brexit happens.
It is planned to travel 4 people in one car. We also are planning to bring one large van to carry the clubs so as to allow the cars to travel in comfort.
Please give your names into the office with a non-refundable deposit of €50.
To date 33 people have said they are interested in travelling.

o We are sure that most of you are aware of the changes to the Rules of Golf for 2019 have been updated with effect from the 1^stJanuary 2019. However there will still be plenty of questions on what is the correct thing to do in particular situations in all of our rounds of golf over next few months. There are still some copies of the 2019 Rules around the clubhouse (office and pro shop) and for those of you that are tech savvy the 2019 Rules are also available to download from https://www.randa.org/en/theranda/abouttheranda/downloadsandpublications.

As a result of this update it has been necessary to revise the Local Rules which apply in Enniscorthy Golf Club. A copy will also be posted on the noticeboards in both locker rooms. These revised local rules supersede those shown on our scorecards.We would recommend that you print off a copy and carry it with you in your golf bag as we will continue to use our existing stock of scorecards, with now obsolete local rules, until our supply is exhausted.

o As many of you may be aware our Gents 9 hole competitions this year will be qualifying competitions for handicap purposes. Such competitions are already qualifying competitions in our Ladies section and many other golf clubs are running such competitions as qualifying competitions. Golfs governing bodies are encouraging the establishment of such competitions in response to increasing demands on time for many people which means that they cannot play 18 hole qualifying competitions frequently enough to maintain a handicap representative of their potential ability. They are also encouraged to allow players whose age or health makes playing 18 holes difficult to maintain a representative handicap.

Players playing in our 9 hole competitions (front nine only) will now be using a specific card for same where the revised hole indices are now numbered 1 to 9. As a result of this change the previous procedure of weekly winners incurring a 1 or 2 shot penalty the next time they play will be discontinued. However we will continue to have an overall winner and 4 category winners each week.

o As you know we got great news last year by way of Government funding for course maintenance. The quotations for the proposed works exceeded the allocation received so we had to apply for a change of use of the funding allocated to us under the Capital Sports Programme which has now been approved. We look forward to work commencing on the new first green and course drainage work in the Autumn.This is great, positive news for Enniscorthy Golf Club and will help us enhance the wonderful product we already have.

o We purchased over 1000 sandbags two years ago and to say they are getting scarce is an understatement. Please check your cars and garages and return the sandbags so as others can use them. Additionally, there have been vast amounts of driving range tokens that have been purchased and not used yet. This causes us a problem as we have to keep re-ordering tokens. It would be a great help to us if you could either a) use the tokens ASAP or b) bring them back into the shop and we can refund the amount you paid.

o Golf for the ladies – Are you new to golf and need an introductory basic course? There will be further groups starting as the year progresses so if you know anyone who’d like to give Golf a try why not suggest it to them. We have a number of initiatives (at minimal cost) designed to show them what a great sport golf is and what a great club Enniscorthy GC is. Also, our 3 month ‘Get in to golf’ programme for beginners is proving to be a runaway success, so much so that more programmes are being planned. Enniscorthy Golf Club is the most successful club in the country for winning provincial and national honours and that record has been enhanced with the winning of two extra cups, The Provincial Towns Challenge Cup and the Barton Cup. Junior coaching is top of the range, the facilities are brilliant and the course has to be one of the best in the region as it has the strange ability to be a challenge for the expert and a pleasure for the novice golfer at the same time. o Jason Rackard and Paul Conroy played in the South of Ireland Championship in Lahinch Golf Club recently. On the first day of strokeplay qualifying, Jason opened up with a 3 under par round while Paul shot level par. Both advanced to the matchplay stage on the following morning. With scores of Jason (level) and Paul (4 over) both have advanced to the afternoon’s last 32 series of matches having won their respective matches where they again both won and advanced to the round of 16 against some of the biggest names in Irish amateur Golf. Great stuff Paul Conroy and Jason Rackard. Unfortunately this is far as they got with both Paul and Jason knocked out in the last 16. However it was a great performance from both men this week especially considering Jason knocked out the reigning champion, and world number 22, Caolan Rafferty, yesterday while Paul knocked out last year’s runner-up Rowan Lester. A tournament to be proud of gents. Best of luck to Paul Conroy who is competing in the Irish Amateur Close Championship in Ballybunion.

o The Coopers have done it again, Sean Cooper was a prizewinner in the Leinster Under 13 series qualifying played at Lucan Golf Club sponsored by Titleist. Not to be outdone, brother Ruairi won his age group in the Flogas Irish Junior Open event in Powerscourt Golf Club the following day.

Sean also finished T10 in Irish Boys U14 Championship today in Greenacres Golf Club. Considering Sean has 2 more years at this age group he should be very satisfied with his performance yesterday and today against players up to 2 years older than him.

The news for the various competitions is as follows –

Provincial Towns Cup: Our team played Baltinglass G.C. on Sunday June 22^nd with a semi-final against Wicklow G. C. up for grabs. We had 5 games at home and 4 away with first matches teeing off at 3pm. The weather was abysmal. Unfortunately the great run of our Provincial Towns Cup team has finally come to an end, we exited the competition at quarter final stage. It has been a great run over the last 3 seasons with todays loss coming after winning the title for the last 2 years and everyone involved in the run is to be congratulated on their efforts. It had to end sometime. Baltinglass G. C. came out on top in a very tight series of matches played in heavy rain winning 3 games in Enniscorthy and 2 in Baltinglass. Home team on the day was Davie Murphy, Hughie O’Connor, Thomas Kielthy, Denis Dunbar & Patrick Hore. Away we had Denis Dunne, Rory McCauley, James Sheridan & Charlie Hogg. Team was managed by John Byrne and Tim Morrissey.

AIG Barton Shield: The team continued on their great form from last year, when they reached Leinster Final, by coming out on top in regional qualifying in Mount Juliet recently. They qualified in 2nd place in stroke-play qualifying and went on to defeat Courtown Golf Club before prevailing against Kilkenny Golf Club the same afternoon. Next up will be the Leinster quarter final, to date the opposition is not known yet. Congrats to manager Michael Coffey and to the team of Paul Conroy, Jason Rackard, Graham Donohoe & Dayle Donohoe.

AIG Senior Cup: Well done to Eddie Doyle and his Senior Cup team of Jason Rackard, Paul Conroy, Graham Donohoe, Dayle Donohoe & Eoin Doyle who put in a series of great performances in regional qualifying in Courtown Golf Club by shooting the joint best score in stroke play qualifying on Saturday and then beating both Kilkenny and Rosslare in match-play on Sunday. They have now qualified for Leinster Finals weekend in Blainroe Golf Club in August.

o Flogas Irish Junior Open Ulster event took place in Concra Wood Golf Club recently and Enniscorthy was well represented in the form of Sean and Ruairi Cooper who both won their respective age categories, well done lads.

o On Friday June 28^th we had Mr Captain John Byrne’s Prize to the Juniors, 5 Day, Distance & Overseas members. The winners from that section were – intermediate/student Patrick Hore (9) 69; 5 day, distance & overseas Danny Kearney (13) 69; Juniors – Gross Sean Cooper (7) 73 and Juniors – Nett Sean Walsh 70. We have to make special mention of one particular score from the weekend. Sean Cooper shot a score of 73 gross on Friday afternoon off the blue tees. Such a score is a fantastic round of golf at any age but considering Sean is a mere 12 years old I’m sure you’ll agree that the score is particularly impressive.

o Saturday & Sunday, June 29^th & 30^th saw the Captain’s Prize being competed for in glorious weather conditions. Due to Leinster hurling final the 9 play-off was deferred to last Sunday evening at 6pm. Full results next week. Play-off was contested by top 27 net scores and top 3 gross scores. Prizes will be awarded on Sunday 14^th to winners and runners up in each of these handicap categories. The top 3 players in each category, in each Regional Qualifier, will qualify for All-Ireland Final which will be held in the K Club on Tuesday 8^th October. All qualifiers for All-Ireland Final will receive a meal in K Club at conclusion of their round. INTERCLUB TEAM COMPETITION NEWS AND RESULTS

The news for the various competitions is as follows –

Barton Cup: Hard luck to Barton Cup team who lost out in a tight match to Wexford last weekend. We won one game away and one game at home with second game at home being lost on the 20th. One game away was lost on 17 with the other being lost on 18.

Provincial Towns Cup: Our team beat Courtown Golf Club in the second round recently winning 4 matches at home and 1 match away with remaining matches called in. Well played to all concerned. The Provincial Towns team are aiming for a third title in succession this season. The team play Gowran G.C. next.

Fred Perry Trophy: Managed by Declan Byrne & Ger Byrne, the team went down 4-1 against Waterford G.C. recently.

o Ciara Sharkey, what a golfer, not 1, but 2 hole in ones in a week. Wexford’s 13th hole and again at home on the 3rd.

- - o Paul Conroy is currently participating in the Ulster Strokeplay Championship which is taking place over Galgorm and Masserene Golf Courses. Competition consists of 4 rounds over 2 days. After 3 rounds Paul was sitting in 8th place overall and after 3 holes of his final round he had moved up to 6th place. He finished a very commendable 10th.

o Congratulations to brothers Sean (12 years old) and Ruairi Cooper (8 years old) who finished first and second in their respective categories on the Irish Kids Golf Tour in Slieve Russell recently.

o Congratulations to both Jason Rackard and to Conor Flynn who won the Senior & Junior Cup respectively in Bunclody Golf Club recently.

o As a result of the sad passing of one of our Trustees, the late Marie Frizelle, the Council has acted to seek the appointment of a new Trustee. At a recent meeting of the Council, the name of Anne Banville was proposed and unanimously approved to act as Trustee. The Council is delighted to advise that Ann has graciously accepted the offer of acting Trustee and she will hold office until the next General Meeting of the club.

o In a recent club competition we were looking for two players to represent our club at the GUI 9 Hole Championship Eastern Regional Final in Killiney Golf Club on 13th June. Margaret Mooney and Tom Cummins will be flying the flag. Best of luck.

The news for the various competitions is as follows –

Barton Cup, the team defeated Rosslare Golf Club last weekend winning all 3 games at home.

Our Provincial Towns Cup team beat Courtown Golf Club in the second round recently winning 4 matches at home and 1 match away with remaining matches called in. Well played to all concerned. The Provincial Towns team are aiming for a third title in succession this season.

Fred Perry Trophy, congratulations to our Fred Perry team, managed by Declan Byrne & Ger Byrne, who got our Inter club season off to the perfect start by defeating Gowran Park golf club on March 31^st on a scoreline of 4 games to 1. The team was Martin Sludds & Mick Wickham, Pat Crean & Joe Leacy and Barry Bolger & Con Fleming at home with Eddie Doyle & Ger Byrne and John Casey & Ciaran Tobin away. We won 2 games at home with 3rd game being called in and 1 game away with 2nd game also being called in. Congrats again to our Fred Perry team who overcame a tough challenge from Borris G.C. on 20^th April to triumph on a scoreline of 3.5 games to 1.5 games.

AIG Pierce Purcell – Hard luck to our Pierce Purcell team who who lost out to a strong Courtown team in the semi-final of the regional qualifier in Coollattin last Sunday.

o The ever popular open ladies and gents singles stableford singles and is open to all membership categories. If you know of anyone who might be interested in this competition then please bring them along. Timesheets are now open for booking for virtually every Monday throughout the year. Separate prizes for both Ladies and Gents. This competition is next on the 29^th April and then on the 13^th, 20^th and 27^th May.*

o The very popular men’s midweek 9 holes competition is on again on the 24^th April.* 1^st , 8^th, 15^th and 22^nd May.*

o The gents open seniors is on the second Thursday of every month. The next one is on May 9^th* and then on 13^th June. The age group categories for this year are as follows, 50 to 65, 66 to 75 and 76+. The most popular and best attended gents senior open in the region. The ladies equivalent is on the third Thursday of every month.

INTERCLUB TEAM COMPETITION NEWS AND RESULTS

UPCOMING EVENTS

o Easter Sunday sees the return of our very popular evening mixed (semi-open) and will be followed by another music and traditional singing session. And there’s also a selection of non alcoholic beverages available.

GENERAL NEWS
o Mick Coffey would like to thank everybody who helped raise the fantastic sum of €7,176.50 for Crumlin Children’s Hospital and Our Lady of Fatima Special School, Wexford.

o We had our final presentation of prizes of the season in November with the presentation of prizes to the gents club singles winner Martin Sludds, gents club four ball winners Barry Bolger and Con Fleming, mixed foursomes winners Catherine Lawless and Shane Fortune and gents golfer of the year Liam Sheridan. Thank you as always to Mick Dee who continues to generously sponsor the club singles and club four ball. A word of thanks also to Charlotte Redmond who presented the golfer of the year trophy to Liam Sheridan. The Redmond family present this trophy every year in memory of Eugene Redmond.

Graham Donohoe was also congratulated on his fantastic round of 66 gross in Stephen Fitzpatrick’s Professional’s Prize earlier in the year which has set the new course record.

o Well done to our members Ciara Sharkey and Paul Conroy whose 2018 golfing achievements were acknowledged at the South East Radio awards night. Male and female golf players of the year. Both products of our excellent junior coaching schemes.

o The Captain’s Drive In took place on the 24th February. The format was a 4 person shotgun start to commence after the Captain’s speeches and ceremonial tee off @ 2pm. A great day was had by all. There was a great turn out for our Captains’ drive in. Congratulations to Lady Captain Liz Browne, Captain John Byrne and our junior Captains Rachel Fortune and Ben Kidd. We hope you enjoy your tenure in office.

o St. Patrick’s weekend was a great golfing and social weekend. Ladies’ and Gent’s Open Fourballs, Singles and a Trad Session on the big night itself with Irish Music, story telling & traditional singing. Finger food was served on the night. Someone even dared to wear a pair of luminous green trousers.

o At the GUI Champions’ Dinner in early February, our own Paul Conroy was honoured for his role in helping the Leinster Under 18s win the All-Ireland Inter Provincials in 2018. The Claret Jug was also on display. It’s looking good for Paul in 2019 as he has been selected on Leinster’s Men’s panel.

GUI All Ireland Interclub Fourball, we have a bye into the second round where we will play the winners of Blainroe G.C. v Ballymoney G.C.

o We are sure that most of you are aware of the changes to the Rules of Golf for 2019 have been updated with effect from the 1st January 2019. However there will still be plenty of questions on what is the correct thing to do in particular situations in all of our rounds of golf over next few months. There are still some copies of the 2019 Rules around the clubhouse (office and pro shop) and for those of you that are tech savvy the 2019 Rules are also available to download from https://www.randa.org/en/theranda/abouttheranda/downloadsandpublications.
As a result of this update it has been necessary to revise the Local Rules which apply in Enniscorthy Golf Club. A copy will also be posted on the noticeboards in both locker rooms. These revised local rules supersede those shown on our scorecards. We would recommend that you print off a copy and carry it with you in your golf bag as we will continue to use our existing stock of scorecards, with now obsolete local rules, until our supply is exhausted.

o John Cullen & Lucy Healy (both Rules Officials) recently held a rules information night specifically focussed on the new rules of golf. This was well attended, well presented and many people went home much the wiser.

o As many of you may be aware our Gents 9 hole competitions this year will be Qualifying Competitions for handicap purposes. Such competitions are already qualifying competitions in our Ladies section and many other golf clubs are running such competitions as qualifying competitions. Golfs governing bodies are encouraging the establishment of such competitions in response to increasing demands on time for many people which means that they cannot play 18 hole qualifying competitions frequently enough to maintain a handicap representative of their potential ability. They are also encouraged to allow players whose age or health makes playing 18 holes difficult maintain a representative handicap.

o All members please note that summer rules were brought back in place as of Wednesday 3rd April, therefore standard rules of golf regarding playing ball as it lays etc. will apply. The Winter handicap cuts which were in place over the last few months are now no longer in force and all players will now revert to their normal playing handicaps. Thanks again to everyone who supported our competitions throughout the Autumn and Winter.

o The fixtures’ diary for 2019 is now ready for collection from the office. Don’t forget to pick up your copy of the reciprocal golf pass which will permit full and 5 day members to play complimentary golf in Rosslare, Athy, Newbridge and Waterford this year on two occasions each. Don’t forget to bring your GUI/ILGU card. Membership is such good value in 2019 with the continuation of this arrangement. As we are twinned with Carmarthen Golf Club in Wales our members may also avail of their facilities too.

o It is now the season for communion/confirmation celebrations and there have been a few of late. The clubhouse function room can be hired for private functions, christenings, communions, confirmation, birthdays, quizzes, weddings, retirements and funerals or any other function for that matter with bar facilities and catering available then just ring the bar manager Adrian on 083 300 4021.

o As you know we got great news last year by way of Government funding for course maintenance. The quotations for the proposed works exceeded the allocation received so we had to apply for a change of use of the funding allocated to us under the Capital Sports Programme which has now been approved. We look forward to work commencing on the new first green and course drainage work in the Autumn. This is great, positive news for Enniscorthy Golf Club and will help us enhance the wonderful product we already have.
