How it works

Turn a great golf day into a successful fundraiser

Classics are commonly organised as team events. Sponsors usually support individual teams, while additional income can be generated through tee-box sponsorship, goody-bag sponsorship and clubhouse fundraising.

Clear sponsor recognition is important. Display sponsor names and tee times prominently, and ensure all signage is weather resistant and arranged well in advance.

02

Tee Sponsors

Offer lower-cost sponsorship opportunities on individual tee boxes using suitable outdoor signage.

03

Planning timeline

Build your event step by step

Choose a Date

Select preferred dates and contact the club early to discuss availability.

Confirm the Format

Decide on team numbers, competition format, handicap limits and prizes.

Secure Sponsors

Arrange team, tee-box, prize and goody-bag sponsors well in advance.

Promote the Event

Share booking information and sponsor details across your organisation.

Enjoy the Day

Welcome teams, run side competitions and finish with clubhouse hospitality.

Team Format

Classics are normally played as team events. Organisers may choose an appropriate competition format for their group.

Handicap Limits

A common maximum for non-affiliated players is 18 for men and 20 for ladies, although organisers may set different limits.

Sponsor Recognition

Sponsors should receive prominent recognition during the event to help encourage their participation in future years.

What happens if the weather is very poor?

Where particularly severe weather affects a Golf Classic, the club can work with organisers to arrange another suitable date. Most Classics are held on summer Fridays, when extreme conditions are less common.
